The Challenge
The district had a stalled website redesign project with Finalsite. Its existing site was outdated, inaccessible, and difficult to navigate, and the district lacked internal staff to manage the redesign process. The district needed a consultant who could bridge the gap between district stakeholders and the CMS vendor, translating organizational needs into a technically actionable plan.
What I Did
Selected and customized a Finalsite site template, coordinating three rounds of design revisions with district stakeholders. Advised leadership on what was feasible within Finalsite’s platform constraints to keep expectations realistic and the project moving. When Finalsite reached their project scope limits, stepped in directly to handle navigation changes, content rewrites for SEO, accessibility improvements, and media library organization. Customized module code to accommodate additional district requests that fell outside the original scope. Created a dedicated accessibility page, sourced and integrated policy content, and built a resource hub to train district staff on ongoing site management. Remained committed to the project through completion despite delays and staffing turnover on the district side.
The Outcome
The district received a modern, accessible, and navigable website they were fully satisfied with. Accessibility, SEO, and user experience improved across the site. Staff left the engagement with training resources and the confidence to manage the site going forward.
