The Challenge
When the district needed a web presence for its millage renewal campaign, the core challenge was presenting complex financial language and legal requirements in a format that felt easy to navigate and trustworthy for a wide audience of parents, staff, and community members.
What I Did
Created a dedicated millage landing page within the district’s existing CMS (Apptegy) with clear sections covering the proposal overview, benefits to students, tax impact, key dates, and FAQs. Summarized dense documents in plain language to support community understanding. Applied mobile-friendly design elements and layout best practices throughout. Used accordion-style dropdowns to keep the page organized and prevent information overload. Ensured full WCAG and ADA compliance through WAVE and manual screen reader testing. Provided the district team with editable sections and guidance so they could maintain and update content independently throughout the campaign.
The Outcome
The millage renewal passed. Clear, accessible digital communication gave the community a single trusted source of information and helped the district present their case with confidence and transparency.
