WCAG 2.1 AA Accessibility Audit

The Challenge

With the DOJ Title II accessibility deadline approaching, Waterford School District needed a comprehensive audit of their website to understand where they stood and what needed to change. The site had never been formally audited, and the district needed more than a list of errors. They needed a clear, prioritized roadmap their team could actually act on.

What I Did

Conducted a full WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility audit covering 431 pages and 445 PDFs across the district website, built on the Foxbright CMS. Testing combined automated tools including WAVE, Siteimprove, AudioEye, and Lighthouse with manual screen reader evaluation using NVDA and keyboard navigation testing to ensure nothing was missed. Deliverables included a multi-tab Google Sheets remediation workbook organized by priority, a 19-slide PowerPoint audit report for district leadership, a five-checklist accessibility guide for ongoing staff use, and all supporting stakeholder communications.

The Outcome

A follow-up progress comparison conducted after the district began remediation showed a 21.6% overall improvement in accessibility compliance. The district walked away with a complete remediation workbook, a leadership-ready audit report, and a set of accessibility checklists built for long-term staff use, giving them the tools to maintain compliance well beyond the engagement.
